Happy Valentine’s Day

The big day is coming up and my friends have all sorts of reactions:  “Why is my boyfriend going skiing without me?”  “I bought my wife a pink bicycle.”  “Should we have a ghosts and apparitions party for all of our single friends?”

I love Valentine’s Day because it evokes such a range of emotions:  happy people, sad people, people indignant about commercialism, and a bunch of people who just couldn’t be bothered.  I bet you though, that the people who can’t be bothered are also surrounded by people who think Valentine’s Day IS important.  Funny, eh?

It’s a lot like marketing – people have all sorts of reactions, but even if you’re indifferent to marketing, it’s almost impossible to just ignore it.  I guess that means there must be something worthwhile about it, right?  Well my theory is that you can’t sell something if people don’t know who you are.  That means brand identity is important to your business.  And the more consistently you talk about your company, the more likely people are to remember it.  That means marketing communications are important to your business. And of course, if you follow through on what you’ve promised your customers, then your reputation is reinforced, which means that your brand value is getting stronger.

As businesses grow and become more sophisticated, you’d be surprised by the number of organizations that forget about these marketing basics.  Make sure you’re not one of them and that you can quickly answer these three questions:

  • What’s your 30 second company pitch?
  • How do you effectively communicate with your buyers?
  • How do you reinforce your value?

Answering these should be nice and easy for you and the rest of your team.  If they’re not, then it’s a good time to reassess what you’re doing and make the necessary changes so that 2015 is as strong of a year as it’s meant to be!

If you need some help with some marketing basics, join us for a complimentary webinar, sponsored by TOG. We’re going to review branding basics and communication fundamentals – with a focus on online social media.  RSVP to Leutrell Osborne if you are interested.

Wishing you and your loved ones everything you deserve!

All my best, Aruna
