The Magic Number

Do you ever wonder if your memory is losing traction? Do you remember, before stored phone numbers, how you had all your friends and family’s phone number memorized? How many times did you dial those numbers, before they made a memorable and lasting impact? Maybe our memories are softer now, but it’s important not to forget the power of repetition and how it really does help us remember things.

In fact, that’s how marketing works. Brand or communication repetition affects recognition (albeit an indirect, subconscious type of recognition).

We are bombarded every day by useless information that we automatically tune out, but occasionally things do get our attention. How does that happen? Most likely you’ve seen this particular thing more than once and it has particular relevance to your situation. I’d even venture to say, based on marketing and advertising research, that you’ve somehow been exposed to this thing a minimum of three times. The more we see things, the easier they are recalled and have the potential to make an impact. So, keep this in mind when you are planning your next marketing strategy, repetition (within reason) is a necessary thing!
