Back To Basics For The Holidays

Wow! Times are tough! Over the past month I’ve spoken to so many people who are out of work, subletting their office spaces, not getting paid, and dealing with the ugly emotions of stress. Interestingly, it’s forced many of us to go back to basics – our network of contacts.

My brother tells me he’s been getting calls from people he hasn’t heard from in 10 years, who are interested in the industry buzz. Another friend ran into an old professional colleague who gave him much needed creative and emotional support. A work colleague heard from an estranged family member through an online social networking site and reconnected both personally and professionally.

Things are starting to happen. Some people have even seen business pick up over the past few months. We should take advantage of this momentum and join the back-to-basics crowd. Revisiting old connections may have unexpected benefits, so why not give them a try? It’s the perfect time of the year to remember who helped make you great and to reconnect with them. It will be a nice infusion of memories and optimism to get 2010 started the right way.

Wishing you peace, happiness, and prosperity for the new year.

Yours truly,

“In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.
Albert Schweitzer
